The spider’s web has mesmerized people for a long time. Its beautiful, yet eerie, appearance, its strength and now also its potential to improve the safety of glass windows for birds.

A German company mimicked the spider web’s pattern to coat glass windows with a UV reflecting layer. The human eye can see through the windows, yet a bird will see the reflection. This means less birds will try to fly through the window and hurt themselves in the attempt.

The windows, at the top of a historic lookout, allow visitors to have a stunning view without harming birds.
